Travel Tryout Information
Dear GYL Parents and Players,

As the season fast approaches, we wanted to share some important information about the tryout process and beyond.

  •  Please familiarize yourself with our Travel Tryouts page on the website for an overview of the process; Key Dates will provide details of tryout dates, times, and location.
  • We have an eclectic group of boys and girl’s selectors comprised of GYL coaches and independent coaches that have vast and unbiased experience with this process.
  • All players will be placed on a skill appropriate team at the conclusion. No one gets cut!
  • You will receive an email on the morning of Monday, March 11 with your child’s placement and follow up season information.
  • Parent coaches of players trying out are NOT part of the selection process for that grade. They can be for grades where they have no child participating.
  • Our criteria for selection include many things such as lacrosse prowess and athleticism. We try and balance this to get a good representation of the player.
  • We often get asked, “how many tryouts should my child attend?” It is NOT the “quantity” of tryouts you make, but the “quality” your child produces on the field. Yes, making all or most of the tryouts allows selectors to get the best grade for placement.
  • Upon final placement, GYL reserves the right to move players “up” after further evaluation. A player cannot move down. This, however, is an exception and not the rule.
  • COMMITMENT. We ask that GYL be your child’s spring season extra-curricular activity (after family, school and religion.) If you are enrolled in a spring soccer, lacrosse, baseball or other sports team with competing schedules, it will simply not work. That said, what you do in your “off time” is your personal decision. We just ask that you fully commit to GYL and make it your priority. This is not meant to be punitive. It is meant to reward those who are all in!
  • Unexcused absences will cost you game playing time.
  • If you have 3 unexcused absences, you will be referred to the GYL Board for possible dismissal.
  • Schedules and Practices days will be messaged the week following tryouts. We’ve had an explosion in enrollment and are doing our best to get this information to you ASAP.
  • If you have any further questions or concerns about anything GYL, please email Pat Coleman.

Thank you for your support of GYL and we look forward to a positive and productive season with your child.

Pat and Sarah
