Welcome to 2025 House League Season

Welcome to the 2025 GYL House League Season

March 11, 2025

Welcome to House League

Dear GYL House League Families,

It's almost time to hit the fields for the 2025 House League season! Jersey Day was a lot of fun and we loved seeing all the kids' excitement for a great year ahead.

Our registration continues to grow, with over 800 participants and more than 125 volunteer coaches in House League alone. These dedicated coaches, along with local high school players and many special guests, will be on the fields this spring with the kids. We are thrilled to welcome back our amazing master coaches:

  • Girls K-4: Shawn Cavanaugh
  • Boys K-2: Keith Radcliffe
  • Boys 3-4: Eugene Miller

House League is the building block of our program, and we are proud of our history and long-standing commitment to youth sports in our community. We are consistently one of the largest programs in the country and the largest in Connecticut. Each season, we strive to create a fun and safe environment focused on skill development. We are happy you are part of the family! See below for more information about GYL, and look out for more updates soon.

Kindergarten Players Will Combine for all Friday Night Clinics

We recognize the challenges our youngest players face when picking up a stick for the first time. Adding equipment and possible inclement weather can make it difficult to get a feel for the stick and learn the basic motor skills that will serve as the foundation for skill development and improvement. These basic skills apply to both the girls' and boys' game.

For 2025, we are combining Kindergarten girls and boys on a single field (GHS #3) to focus on a fun curriculum that stresses the core fundamentals of lacrosse: scooping, passing, and shooting. Our intent is to have the children practice together without equipment (just sticks and softer Swax balls) each Friday. For the first two Sundays, the girls will have a girls only clinic on GHS 6. Boys will always be on GHS 3 and the girls will join them on GHS 3 on March 28. Don't worry, we will send a clear email each week so you know where to go!

Friday Night Clinics Field Assignments

The field situation at Greenwich High School is challenging given our registration numbers. To accommodate everyone, we will expand our use of all available turf this season. Here are the field assignments for the season (subject to change):

  • We will run FNC at the traditional 6:00 to 7:00 time slot at Greenwich High School
  • Kindergarten girls and boys will be on GHS #3 (starting March 28)
  • Boys 1 & 2 will be on GHS #4
  • Girls 1 & 2 will be on GHS #6
  • Girls 3 & 4 will be on GHS #7
  • Boys 3 & 4 will be at GHS Stadium

For the two first Fridays we are going to be able to stay on 4 fields since K & 1st grade won't join the fun until March 28.

Where can my child get their jersey?

You can pick up the jersey at any Sunday session. We don't bring the jerseys out on Friday nights because all grades have a one-hour clinic at the same time. You won't need the jersey until we start Sunday scrimmages in week three.

What team is my child on?

If you haven't received one yet, you will soon get a team email from one of your child's coaches. As a reminder, we cannot take friend requests and will not change team configurations. For the first few weeks we run GYL clinic style so a jersey is not absolutely necessary.

I'm confused, what field is my child on?

We plan to update the website and send out an e-mail each Wednesday with each week's schedule. We have no control over the fields so expect there could be some movement week to week. The schedule can always be found at the following link: House League Logistics. Changes will be reflected here and we will always try to get an e-mail out.

Proper Equipment / New Mandatory Shoulder Pads

Please be sure your child is equipped with the proper equipment for the season. GYL's Required Equipment Page is a valuable resource.

  • Your son needs shoulder pads designed for lacrosse that includes a chest protector that meets NOCSAE standard ND200
  • Your daughter's goggles need to meet the current ASTM standards.
More than one person need to get these e-mails?
The easiest way to ensure these system generated e-mails get to everyone in your household is to follow the instructions below:

  1. Go to https://my.sportngin.com/user - you will be prompted to log in if you are not already logged in
  2. From the menu, click Registrations
  3. Click on the Registration titled "Spring 2024 GYL Lacrosse Player Registration"
  4. Look for the "Household Information" section on the resulting page and click the pencil (edit) icon to the right.
  5. Scroll toward the bottom of the page and you can enter/update Second Guardian information.
  6. Click "Save Registration Entry"

We need more volunteers!

Are you interested in coaching House League this season? We welcome new coaches at any grade level! While we have many former collegiate players in our coaching ranks, we are really looking for enthusiastic, positive, and organized individuals to help keep the kids engaged. More coaches mean more reps! Our Master Coaches prepare all practice planners, so no significant lacrosse experience is necessary. All teams have multiple coaches with different levels of experience. Let us know if you'd like to join the fun!
