Registration is now open, and we are excited to announce that we anticipate a record year with over 1,500 registrants expected across our House League and Travel programs. To accommodate our explosive growth, we have several new developments to share:
Fee Adjustments: For the first time in five years, fees will increase modestly for the 2025 season. GYL is committed to providing a quality program at an attractive rate. Our aim is to maintain stable fees for several years, as we have done in the past.
House League: To better manage our curriculum for K-4th grade players, we will utilize the entire Greenwich High School (GHS) campus, alleviating congestion caused by players, coaches, and parents. This will create a more productive environment, particularly during Friday Night Clinics. On Fridays, 3rd and 4th grade boys will practice in the Stadium, and Kindergarten boys and girls will participate in a combined program on one field. Full details will be communicated well before the season begins.
Travel Lacrosse:
-
Starting in 5th grade, boys and girls travel teams will continue to be segmented by age, as they have been for several years. Our registration system will place you in the correct age group, but you can also review the age cut-offs here.
- To address our explosive growth in travel, we will offer a new program for 5th and 6th graders where we expect peak registration. We will have traditional A and B teams by grade, determined by tryouts in the first two weekends in March. Additionally, we will introduce a more flexible and developmental offering for C teams, where players can try out or simply opt-in. This includes two weekday clinics and one weekend practice and game, tailored to better address the needs of this group. This option is available only for 5th and 6th-grade boys and girls.
- In grades 5-8, boys and girls will have the opportunity to “move up” if GYL determines a player has been misplaced after tryouts. This is an exception, not a rule, and we anticipate finalizing player movements by early April.
Specialized Goalie Training: GYL will continue to offer specialized goalie training run by Chris Madalon.
Last year GYL celebrated its 52nd season of lacrosse, marked by a significant increase in player participation. We believe we have established a strong foundation and fostered player and family engagement that will make the next 50 years even better!
On behalf of the GYL Board, we wish you a healthy and safe 2025 and look forward to seeing you this spring.
