Welcome to the 2023 Season!

Welcome to the 2023 GYL Season
January 8, 2023
Welcome to the 2023 Season!

Registration for the 51st GYL lacrosse season will open this Monday, January 9th. Please familiarize yourself with our updated website for all program information and key dates and times.
There are several new developments that we would like to share:

  • Fees will remain the same for the 2023 season. There will be no increase. In a world of increasing costs, GYL is focused on providing a quality product at an attractive rate! For our Travel players we will be offering you a free “shooting shirt”. Details will be sent to all registered players in the coming weeks.

  • Travel lacrosse for boys and girls:
  • Beginning in 5th grade, travel teams will be segmented by age (the same way it has been for the past several years). Our registration system will put you in the right age but you can also review the age cut offs here.
  • Intro to Travel is now grade based for 3rd and 4th grade regardless of age. You simply play House League and Intro to Travel in your grade. No, you cannot “opt up” to play in a higher grade.

  • Program: Clinics for 5th – 8th grade boys and girls
  • GYL will continue to offer specialized training but expand on our successful goalie clinics run by Chris Madalon. We will be promoting draw/face-off, shooting/dodging and defensive clinics to augment your developmental experience. This will be part of the travel curriculum. You will hear more about this as the season unfolds.
  • GYL will offer free clinics for those players who have multiple activities during the spring but can’t make the full travel commitment. As an example, this is great for the baseball players, hockey players, and dancers who want to learn/play lacrosse. This is an introductory offering that is targeted for new players. The only equipment required is a stick and a mouth guard. You will hear much more about this in the next few months. If successful, we will make this a full program offering in 2024. Please pass this information on to friends and family who would like to try lacrosse or pick it up again!

Last year, GYL celebrated our 50th season of lacrosse! It was an extraordinary year that experienced a large uptick in players. We believe we have created the proper foundation and player/family engagement to make the next 50 years even better! On behalf of the GYL Board, we wish you all the best for a healthy and safe 2023! We look forward to seeing you this spring.

Our House League program is for players in Kindergarten to 4th grade. Players are separated by grade and we focus on skill development, small sided play, team building, and fun! We offer Intro to Travel Lacrosse to 3rd and 4th graders.

GYL's Travel Program fields teams from 5th to 8th grade. Teams are open to all skills and experience levels. Players are placed on a team that is appropriate for their skill development. We focus on skill building, sportsmanship, development of character on and off the field, and, of course, fun!
We can't wait for March 4th!
Jersey Day is the official start of the GYL season. We invite all House League players (K through 4th grade) to pick up their jerseys and meet some new friends! There will be local vendors on hand if you need any new equipment! Come and meet the board and some of our amazing coaches! Come to Old Greenwich School on March 4th from 9am to 11am!
Travel tryouts take place on the first two weekends of March. All 5th though 8th grade players are scheduled for March 4, 5, 11, & 12. Times and fields are subject to change so please check the latest information on the GYL website. Click on the link to learn more about the 2023 Travel Tryouts.
