Welcome to the 2022 Season!

Welcome to the 2022 GYL Season
January 9, 2022
Welcome to the 2022 Season!
At the start of every year, there is great excitement as we prepare for our annual registration which opens Monday January 10th. We can’t wait to see the girls and boys on the field!

This is a particularly exciting year because 2022 marks Greenwich Youth Lacrosse’s 50th anniversary. Founded in February 1972 by L.C. Whitey Heist, Jack Davies, John Behne, and Sam Connor, GYL was originally organized under the Old Greenwich-Riverside Community Center (OGRCC) and limited to grade 7-9 residents of Old Greenwich and Riverside. Today, GYL is one of the largest and most successful town programs in USA Lacrosse with nearly 1,000 girls and boys participating, hundreds of volunteer coaches, and close ties with all area high school programs and coaches. Our operating model and focus on skill development have been replicated by numerous other programs, and our leadership role in CONNY Lacrosse, the governing body of Connecticut lacrosse, has led to incredible opportunities for our members including the formation of the CONNY girls’ division.
For 50 years, GYL has been providing a fun environment for young athletes to learn the skills of the game while also developing character-building traits like teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.
Plans are underway to celebrate our 50-year anniversary, so stay tuned!

Please be sure to visit the GYL web site often for updated information. Our web site is our primary mode of communication, but we will continue to send e-mails as appropriate. To stay connected, please make sure you update your child’s GYL record and be sure you provide us with all e-mail addresses so we can keep in touch.

Finally, and most importantly, we are deeply saddened by the recent tragedy in our local sporting community. We send our heartfelt condolences to Teddy Balkind's family and friends as well as the St. Luke's, Brunswick, and hockey community.

On behalf of the GYL Board, we wish you all the best for a healthy and safe 2022. We look forward to seeing you on the fields this Spring!
