2021 Season Is Around the Corner
29 December 2020
Dear Greenwich Youth Lacrosse Families,
I am excited to announce that our registration will open on Monday, January 11, 2021. Our website has been revamped and updated with all of the upcoming season program information.
While we are optimistic about being on the fields in March, we are also realistic and mindful of the global pandemic that is now resurgent in our area. To put your minds at ease, GYL will, again, offer a full refund should the season not happen. The GYL Board has been busy planning for a safe and secure environment for our children to play. Check out the 2021 Key Dates page, which we expect to be updated on a regular basis. We are excited this year to have added two new advisors to our program: Melissa Anderson, Head Coach at Greenwich Academy, and David Bruce, Head Coach at Brunswick School. They are no strangers to GYL and hold a prominent place on the national high school lacrosse stage.
GYL brings back its very unique medical advisory Board run by Dr (and coach) Marcie Molloy and Tom O’Connor, Esq (and coach). They are joined by Todd Wilkowski (CEO of Performance Physical Therapy), Dr (and coach) Karen Sutton of HSS, “Doc” Drew Sama of HSS and Dr (and coach) Paul Sethi of ONS. This group has worked closely with the GYL Board to come up with protocols for injury prevention, athletic preparedness, and Covid-19 protocols as we approach the spring season.
We are fortunate to have a close relationship with all of the area high school programs – Greenwich High School, Greenwich Academy, Greenwich Country Day School, Brunswick School, and Sacred Heart Greenwich. They all participate in the success of GYL and their support is critical and greatly appreciated. One of the silver linings of this challenging environment is the larger pool of younger coaches now available to GYL. This dovetails nicely with the expected rise in enrollment given the recent rush of families that have moved to Greenwich.
GYL offers a unique program that is affordable and where there is a place for all types of players regardless of size, strength and skill. We offer more coaches who were past All-Americans than any program in our area. We encourage volunteer coaches to join us so our coach to player ratio remains high. Bottom line, GYL is your town-based program that is aligned with other town programs in the Fairfield County and metro area!
On behalf of the GYL Board, I wish you all the best during the holidays and for a safe and healthy 2021. Good riddance, 2020!
Pat Coleman
President, Greenwich Youth Lacrosse
