GYL Statement on Player Commitment

In light of the tremendous growth of youth lacrosse, in particular the increasing number of playing options for elementary and middle school children in Greenwich, GYL would encourage you to refresh your understanding of the GYL Statement on Player, Family Commitment and Guiding Principles. Please click here:

https://leagueathletics.com/Page.asp?n=150127&org=GREENWICHYOUTHLACROSSE.ORG

In addition, US Lacrosse provides the following article, 5 Big Things Every Lacrosse Parent Should Know as guidance in raising your young athletes.

A Note to our program dated March 28, 2018

Dear GYL Parents and Players,

Our spring season is short and we want everyone's experience to be productive so we are writing to help clarify our commitment policy.  GYL promotes all players participating in multiple sports year-round for balanced development. GYL respects all school, religious and family conflicts. Outside of this, we ask that all players commit to GYL as their spring season primary extra-curricular activity. If you can navigate other activities around GYL, that is your decision.

We are respectful of winter season closure with hockey, skiing, basketball, swimming, etc. and we are respectful of early-season family vacations. We get it. Playing on two lacrosse teams or conflicts that arise because of a commitment to another spring sport, not to mention your school team, will be problematic. Our policy states that if a player has three unexcused absences, for either games or practices, they will need to speak with the GYL board about their further participation in the program. Yes, a player can be dismissed. This isn't about punishing those who miss. It's about supporting those who commit. It's about supporting those who are committed to their team and have made a choice to play for GYL over other things. It is not fair to have spots go to players who are less than 100% committed.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Pat Coleman (boys travel) at   or Katie Johnson (girls travel) at  .

We hope you all have a wonderful and prosperous season!

The GYL Board

GYL UNIFORM RECYCLING INITIATIVE

GYL UNIFORM RECYCLING INITIATIVE
"Environmental and Fiscal Responsibility"

GYL has a mandatory recycling program for all House League and Travel teams. The program will not only reduce GYL's environmental footprint, but also permit us to continue to invest in the experiences that make GYL's House League and Travel teams so special.

House League pinnies, Travel game reversibles, tryout pinnies and girls skirts will be collected by your coach on the last day of the season.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation
Greenwich Youth Lacrosse
